Red Wings May 20/21 (vs. Gwinnet Braves)

May 20th brought another Wings/Braves game.  Good play all around, but some heroes emerged.  Here, the pitcher catches a pop-fly, ably backed up by the 1st baseman:

I just love it when I can use a high shutter speed and can catch moments like this:

When the opponents make dramatic photogenic plays, it's just as fun from behind the lens.  Here the second baseman for Gwinnet's about to throw out the runner at 1st.

I'm pretty sure this was a strike, but just look at the forearms on this guy!

When you get a good picture of the pitcher working his butt off, you post it:

Just loved this shot of the pitcher, looking contemplative and prepared all at once.  No action, just good humanity inside a kids' game played by men.

This shot's from between innings during warm-up.  The pitcher had scuffed a ball and the catcher tossed it aside.  The ball boy took a while to go out and get it.  While waiting, the ball seemed to call to me, and I got this nice shot.

A 3-run home run clinched the game for the Wings.  This shot of the celebration at home came out better than the swing did.

Among the best action shots are the pitcher's efforts to keep a runner from taking too big a lead.  They're great because they're compelling, they're predictable and happen at a slow enough speed to catch well, and you never know when something really cool is going to happen.
